SSD for uncompressed HD

Hi.

Does anyone have experience using SSD for onlining/editing/playback of uncompressed HD?

With datarates of up to 250MBps it should be enough for uncompressed 1080p 24p/25p, right? This to me seems like a simple solution for short projecs, but cheaper and easier than large multi-disk RAID arrays.

Am I missing something here? Are there any hidden limitations (appart from storage space)?

Data rates of "up to" 250MBps does not equate to data rates of "at least" 250MBps; you'd have to evaluate the particular drive in question to find out what its minimum sustained write speed is, and its minimum sustained read speed.

Thanks Barry. I'm aware that max and sustainable speed is not the same.

I was just thinking, perhaps since SSD is fairly new technology there might be some none-obvious hickups.

I thought ssd might be a reasonably cheap and certainly easy way to get the performance needed for working with small grading/compositing projects in uncompressed image sequences.
