squeeze mode to 16:9 help needed desperately

Ok... I shot and edited a 22 minute short and Im stoked. But Im tearing my hair out trying to format this thing.

I want to get the whole framing that I shot for on a dvd. Im using FCP and exporting a quicktime file out to idvd. The result is that It plays on my dvd player, but I get no letterbox or 16/9 formatting. It will not play on the windows based laptop that Im typing on at the moment, but I think its just not a compatible format.

Instead it just looks like a really big 4:3 image when i play the dvd on my dvd player attached to the tv.

inside the motion tab of the viewer on FCP i have the distortion set at -33.33 and the sizing is set at 133.

What do I need to do to create a letterboxed image? Or is it just that idvd will not support this ??

Any and all links, info, help, advice and anything else is very desperately needed here. Thanks in advance.

If it was shot squeeze mode it should be flagged as Anamorphic in the FCP item property settings as well as in the Sequence settings. Not too sure if iDVD supports anamorphic 16:9 though as it's not meant for pro work. Here's a workaround that might help if DVDSP is not a possibility for you:

Im making headway with keeping the film distorted at -33.33 to compensate for the squeeze and leaving the sizing at 100%

i do have access to dvd studio pro...

Now if I take the project to studio pro ... do i select 4:3 to keep my screen aspect the same as the edit?

If I click 16:9 will it distort?

:undecided -confused

If you shot 16:9 you should have captured and edited at 16:9 anamorphic, it's not too late to change this. Also if done with the right settings you should not have to alter anything in the Motion tab to get proper looking aspect ratio on your footage.
