square pixels?

hey there,

I have just started working with photoshop recently and have been doing a few things with it for some films ive been working on. I've noticed that when working with the video presets in photoshop there is the option to work with PAL 4x3, PAL 16x9 and PAL Square pixel. I'm not too sure what the square pixel preset is for and what it refers to or is appropriate for? Should you be using the exact resolution that you shoot your footage in and plan to edit in to maximize quality? this is just something that has been intriguing me recently and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light.

cheers

Daniel.

If you work with still pictures. Many of them is square pixels. So if you want maximum resolution for pal your pictures have to be 768*576 to match PALs 720*576.

Same if you have a widescreen picture it must be 1024*576 to match PAL 720*576.

so what your saying is that when working with square pixels in photshop they will match a standard or widescreen picture when added to video? even though there are exact resolution presets the same as the resolution of PAL in photoshop? so is it best to use square pixels over the standard presets that match up with PAL, say if i was designing titles in photoshop and then bringing them into premiere?

still a bit confused.
