Spray Paint Suggestions

I have a huge crop of air soft guns for this film Im working on. My younger brother suggested painting the orange tips black with a magic marker. I used some cheap spray paint that didnt work to well either, can anyone recommend a brand of spray paint that will work well with what im trying to accomplish.

If they are plastic try using a plastic adhesive promoter first. Get your paint at an auto parts store. I've always had good luck with the stuff from duplicolor. If its metal prime the heck out of these things first and follow all of the steps on the can. Sand between coats etc. A good paint job isnt cheap or easy, but it is good :)

Yeah try that and then prime and paint sanding when appropriate. The adhesive promoter will have some instructions. Since its plastic I assume you were just having trouble getting any coverage and the orange still shows through? A good coat or two or three of primer will help out with that.

And don't go with a completely black paint job, layer it with a dark gray and touches of silver for wear. Helps with realism.

But we use metal tips and bodies here.

Good point Doc - I was going for that brand spanking new look I suppose :) Definitely weather it up a bit for a "real" look.

Another good idea for plastic parts is to use "Vinyl colour" or "Vinyl Dye"
No plastic adhesion promoter/primer required as it bonds directly to plastic and won't scratch or flake off :)

You should be able to grab it (in heaps of colours and finishes) from the same place as regular auto spray paint, but make sure that you are in a VERY well ventillated area (or use a mask like mine) as the solvent is way nastier than the stuff they use in regular paints

I spray stuff black for this reason all the time, and I use enamel paint in an airbrush. Using an airbrush is abit strange, you dont feel like your painting something, more that you are changing the colour of it. the layer is so thin, the texture of the original surface is maintained, and the paint dries instantly. Very nice gadget.
