Spot exposure tracking

Hi everyone,

Can someone tell me how editors are working with spot exposure tracking?

I don't know if it can be done with the Matte FCP effect but I find much easier working with the Magic Bullet Spot exposure. The thing is... That I can't track it (keyframe it) in MB or FCP!

Been searching the WWW for an answer and it seems that MB only offers tracking ability on Adobe AE which is a platform that I'm not comfortable with.

Any suggestions to keyframe a spot exposure inside FCP?

Thanks

There is no tracking in FCP. You'll have to lay down the keyframes manually.

There are a couple of ways you can achieve this:

Duplicate the track onto V2 and apply your exposure changes to it. Then apply a matte (four point, etc.) to it and keyframe the position of the clip.

Duplicate the track onto V3 and place a shape generator (oval, circle, etc.) between the two layers. Apply your exposure changes to the top layer and change the composite mode of the layer to Travel Matte Luma (or Alpha if you are using a track that has an alpha channel). Now keyframe the shape layer.

For small things, that could work. If you need to do more complicated color correction you are better off switching to Color, Motion or Shake all of which have proper tracking.
