Hello, lighting Gurus.

Hey, guys, would you like to share some tips and advices how to light Sport Studio for a beginner. There will be two people in the studio, the Host and one Guest. It's a football studio where people chat about the last season.

What do I need to get a professional looking lighting? How would you light this kind of studio? What lights would you use and why? Is it possible to do it with low budget and have professional feeling? Is there any possibility that I could use those PAR lights that I asked in other topic? I mean, I'm going to buy HVX200 when it comes out, and have no money left for decent lighting kit for some time.

I have a little pic here. It's from John Jackman's book 'Lighting for Digital Video & Television". Great book, highly recommended. Is this kind of lighting setup ideal for this kind of studio? I think I will need some background lighting also, right? Do I need two lights for both person or will one do for both in the background? And what kind of light would that be?

Thank you. Can't wait to hear your advices. :)

Aah, yeah, I forgot to ask also this...Is this kind of setup with PAR light ok for diffused light for this kind studio? Or is the light too hard to control after using photoumbrella? I guess, I can't use those PARs straight out of box, right? I need some diffusion...but how? Aah, I'm full of questions...

Those would be fresnell lights (with diffusion of some sort). Another instrument might be a soft light of some kind (kino, Chimera, zip light).

umbrella + PAR = not the ideal set up.

umbrella + Open face light = good.

PAR = by itself, good for some uses. Hard lighting, long throw.

BTW, I like your use of simple graphics. I think we all should communicate that way...

Heeheeh, thanks J! I decided to put a little bit of graphics to get it more simple. I think it's also a cool way to communicate.

Yeah, fresnels...but they are sooooo expensive! Is there any way to do it on lkow budget? I'm definately getting someday Arris fresnels but don't have money as the HVX is coming out soon...

There is a reason that fresnells are the default industry standard light. They are the most versatile.

Altman make the least expensive, a 750 for under a hundred dollar US.
