Sponsors & Funding

I have made many short films and a few commercials (non-official ~ not to air). They have been mainly for College production purposes. And for college, everything is rushed and not done the way you want it because of limited time, money,and/or equipment.
I have written a script that I pitched to the class so we could make a short film out out it, but because of the complexity and the costs of making it, and most of the students in the film class don't give a ****, it wasn't chosen. But I was told it was an amazing idea/story and should definitely be done. So, I want to do this over the summer, on a more professional scale.

The big problem is funding this film. It is a complicated film that will require a lot of actors, props, and big sets. So, there is a lot of money that needs to be put into it. But, where will it come from?
I was hoping to get some sponsorships to collect money, instead of raising it and giving things in return such as CD's, shirts, posters, etc. It seems easier with sponsors. But, even so, I don't know how to do it and get all the money.

I haven't started on the project yet, but I hope to start very soon. Probably during the Christmas break. I'm not sure how much I need, but I'm guessing tens of thousands to pull off to make it just pure amazing :P
Anyt tips?
Thanks

Welcome to the real world!

Limited time, money, equipment.

Well, were talking about less than 1 week (5-6days) to get a script written, to wrapping of the film. But this time I'm making something more legit and larger, and I have a lot of time.

Well, there is always local business sponsorship with product placement. Give them a credit and special thanks in the credits. If you promote the film online, always provide a link to them on your promotions.

Just a thought to consider. I have a sponsor for any military/action film I get involved in. All I have to do is walk in, tell him the storyline, and he usually donates the props and sometimes cuts a check on the spot.
