Split Screen question

I'm planning on shooting a short composed entirely of 2 splitscreens, and need some advice. It's sort of like that short "The Blind Spot" (EL PUNTO CIEGO), which is on youtube if you haven't seen it.

Essentially I want to shoot 2 movies on a dvx100b 4:3, and put them side by side. This will effectively give me an 8:3 or 2.67:1 ratio movie, and I want to rescale it to 2.35:1 or 16:9, I'm not sure which yet.

What's the easiest way to do this in Premiere Pro Cs3? Is it betetr to do it in AE? And any advice on the best/easiest way to frame the shots when shooting?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would make the choice between apps by deciding if I need to see them side by side while editing. If so, then do it in Premiere. If it works better to edit the two sides separately, then do that, then bring it into AE for your post work and the side by side comp.

In AE, it is as simple as dragging one half to bring it into a comp. Then select that comp and push CTRL K. That will bring up the comp properties. Set the width to be double what it currently says. You want to make sure it is not set to SCALE UP, though.

Then, align that half where you want it. (Left side or right side.) Then drag your other half clip down (you cant put it in a separate comp to make it easier to keep track of the layers) and position it on the other half of the screen.

If you didnt follow any of that, those are very basic AE tasks. Maybe pickup a basic AE Learning book and teach yourself the basics.

Good luck.
