Split screen and rendering

Hello:

I have shot footage on 24p adv and have been using split screen (cropping two images together). Whenever i do a split screen onto my project the footage seems to be skipping frames, moving awkwardly; however before i do the split the footage seems to move fine. My question is do i need to render whatever footage i choose to crop and if so how would i do this? If not this does anyone have any suggestions on why it is doing this.

Thank you.

Once you render, your "choppies" will go away. It sounds like your machine isn't up to the task of playback without dropping frames. I'd keep on editing, but what I'd do, is make a selection in the area that you've got "choppies," and render to RAM. SHIFT+B is the shortcut. Be sure you've got your RAM set high enough in your Prefs/Video tab.
You don't *need* to render, but if you don't mind it, then go ahead and render. SHIFT+M to render just that segment.
