Split field dopter filter on sony FS 700---looking for info and best practice

Hello,

Has anyone used those split field diopter filters to achieve effects (pictures)? We're filming next month and would like to try to use them with some shots, possibly on a Sony FS700 or F55.
What would be the best practice to use them? Any recommendation for brand and models?

Thanks

I just used one on a shoot, and enjoyed it. I wish I just rented a full set of strengths (I own only a +1) and it works with some experimentation. Biggest problem is where to "hide" the transition from the diopter to the regular glass as you can see in the examples (particularly the untouchables still).

I would rent out a set of + .5, 1, 3 and work out those shots ahead of time. You should be able to find a table online that will show at how many feet each diopter will keep a subject in focus when the lens is set to infinity.

Thanks Rob for the info. What type of CAM were you using? Also, what brand would you recommend for those filters? Any issue?

I can't recommend one brand over the other. I used Schneider and since my matte box with a 138mm rear has not yet arrived I just ghetto rigged it up by taping it to my rails/lens, which did cause a problem with rear reflection.

I used the black magic and here is a grab from the proxy of an ungraded shot. I used the door frame to hide the transition and it worked ok. Nothing special, and hopefully no one will even notice a diopter was used.
