spikes or surges in electricity?

Just curious, is there any reason to worry about spikes or surges in electricity that could affect a Kino or Arri light?

Thanks.

While there is some input protection on ballasts, just like there is some on a computer, most manufacturers view extreme overvoltage/undervoltage conditions or "external electrical events" as outside of their responsibility or need to protect against. That's why surge protectors came into use long ago. They are like insurance policies for electronic equipment. Sure, you can go without insurance but what happens when you have something occur and you needed to be covered? Any light or anything for that matter that has electronics in it is subject to spikes or surges in the same ways a computer would be. Surge protectors are always recommended for any electronic goods. A tungsten light however is not electronic at all in nature and would only be subject to the worst overvoltage spiking which could definitely damage or burn out the bulb.

Take the wattage of your fixtures and then find the surge protector rated for that wattage. Either with one fixture per surge protector if its a big wattage or several per surge protector if together they aren't that much.

The "Joule" rating is the level of energy a surge protector can absorb. Whether you buy one per fixture or one for multiple fixtures go with the highest Joule rating you can afford.
