i was looking into the spiderbrace to work with my sgpro i just ordered a few days ago, ive been searching the forums for an answer but couldnt find any...
so here is my question, do i need anything to hook up the sgpro to the spiderbrace? or can i just hook up the sgpro to the spiderbrace with the rod support?

and should i get the spiderbrace 1 or 2? i think ive read somewhere that the 1 is better for 35mm adaptors.

thanks,

I wouldn't really use the spider brace with a 35mm adapter, unless you're going SUPER light (no monitor, no matte box no follow focus, etc...)

and even then be weary.
I've used it w/ my sgpro rev 2 before and been fine but I have a friend who broke 2 of them with his brevis rig :/

I have a spider brace and I've used it with a stock bare HVX and I was still a bit weary. Definitely would not trust it with the SG on also.

Check out redrocks brace.

im looking at cost efficiency at the moment... im going light no follow or monitor just straight up handheld.

oh and do you need anything extra or does the rod support and spiderbrace just slide on there?

I got a spiderbrace. Anyone want to give me 25 bucks. It's just too flimsy. Fun with a naked camera but I think the Indian El Cheapo has superseded it. May also want to look into Moose Grips or the Cinevates.

I broke two spiderbraces with an HVX and Brevis combo on it. no monitor or anything else. fair warning, it won't last.

Don't do it.

1. for long takes you need something with a counterweight to "counter" arm fatigue from heaving up the front end (unless you some sort of bodybuilder type).

2. it's super flimsy and you stand a good chance that it will disintegrate and your rig with be smashed into a billion pieces when it hits the ground.

... with that said, it wouldn't add much weight to your setup.

I have a spider brace... well have is arelative term as its in 4 pieces after a 4 day shoot.....

naked lens it was great... one day on a SGrig withone good whip pan and it was done...... and I mean heart attack inducing holy **** it fell apart with a camera on it kinda moment....

Haha, my rig fell apart too. I was doing a handheld shot and noticed I could tilt the camera without moving my arms up and down on the rig. Uh oh! I stopped the shot and sat the rig down on the ground, fiddled with the brace for a second and the shoulder mount snapped right off. My camera was fine, thankfully, but it could've just as easily been disasterous. Word to the wise, don't stick your $xxxx camera with $xxxx 35mm adapter and $xxx lens (plus whatever other accessories you might have) on a $100 piece of kit and expect nice things to happen :)

That having been said, it lasted for over a year until it gave out, but I imagine it would happen a lot faster if you were shooting it every day instead of about once a week on average.

I've ordered the Redrock Shouldermount as a replacement but in the interim I am using a friend's Spiderbrace. I hope they ship it before I have another shoot...!

Also, I have no way to verify this really but my suspicion is that the most wear and tear is placed on this rig when you sit it down between setups and what not - the back leg (whatever you want to call it, the part that goes on your shoulder) absorbs the majority of the weight because it is lower than the two front grips. You might be able to extend the life of the thing if you put some extra support under that back leg when resting the camera (a sandbag for instance).

okay i think this is enough, i will not be getting the spiderbrace lol... thanks for all your guys' experiences. i will probably save for a dvrigHD or somesort...

I use Cavision handgrips and Cavision shoulder mount. It's lightweight, durable and doesn't cost a whole lot, all together roughly 230 US dollars. Recommended.

And yes, my spiderbrace broke as well and almost sent my dvx/sgpro rig to the pavement :)

i tried to look for it on B&H and it said it was discontinued, is there any other place where i can get this Shoulder mount from?

I just thought I should mention that Cavision delivers multiple choices of hand grips, so you should be able to find the one that fits you best :)
