Speeding up volume in Vegas

Is there a way to speed up the volume in Vegas 5?

I'm doing a music video and want to have some slow mo, but stay with the sync of the song, so I plan to speed up the volume 50%, have the band play to that, change the dvx to 60i and put it on a 24p timeline.

Let me know if I'm crazy. Also, if I put 60i footage on a 24p timeline, then that will slow it down about half correct? Tim.

BTW: I know how to speed or slow it down by using the CTRL key, but I'm wondering how to do it a more exact percentage. Tim.

If you right click the audio event and go into properties, there's a field there to set the exact speed.

Also, if I put 60i footage on a 24p timeline, then that will slow it down about half correct?
I don't think so. Vegas will try to interpret and change everything to fit. So 60i in a 24p timeline will get converted to 24p. Speed stays the same, frame rate and interlaced/progressive changes.

I haven't tried this, but you might get different/better results with 24/60th speed instead of 50%.

If you're using 60i for slo-mo, you want to slow it to 40%. 24 is 40% of 60.

As for stretching out the audio, I haven't found a way to enter in an exact percentage slowdown. But you can do it this way:

Right-click on the video and enter your playback speed (say, .4). Click the "ignore event grouping" button up top. Stretch the video out to the end. Double-click it and look down in the corner of the timeline to determine its exact length.

Then, right-click on the audio, and in the drop-down for "time stretch/pitch shift," choose "classic." Then, in New Length, enter the same length as that of the video.

Then, unclick "ignore event grouping."

If there's an easier way, please, someone point it out. Seems silly that an application as robust as Vegas should make it so stupidly complicated, and here's somewhere I'd love to be corrected.
