Speeding up Vegas

I need to speed up Vegas little bit. I'm editing in HD on Intel C2D 6600, 2MB RAM, GForce 8600GT.
When I have several tracks on time line, its not very smooth when playing the whole think (some tracks are delayed, the video is jerky etc).
Is there some way how to speed up Vegas? Its possible for example to disable those little pictures on video events or images of volume levels on sound events (when I dont need this)?

I'm not really sure what type of HDD I have :)
What kind of effects? Nothing big, only some transitions and titles. I have two video tracks and four audio tracks.

I think david is asking you what type of HD clips are you editing?from which camera? Its important to know as different formats behave differently in Vegas
As for a short term solution go to options>preferences>video then you'll find dynamic ram preview..you can add that to help i think!Just try maybe someone will tell us if that will improve the speed

You can switch off the waveforms and frames by pressing ctrl+shift+w. But I doubt very much you're going to see much difference in performance, if any. You're just asking a lot of your system. HD is taxing.

But speaking of hard drives, a striped RAID may help you, especially if you can use four or more drives.

Dynamic RAM preview: 128 MB (max. available 1024 MB). So I should increase it?

Iv never found the answer to that question but since i got my vegas iv been running it at 1,000RAM(i increased it from 128,i have 3GB ram by the way) and iv never experienced any software problems!

David does doing that change anything?

BTW, I see red frames on some events occasionally. When I click on one of this them, Vegas freezes. What does these red frames indicates?

Have you looked at Vaast Gearshift? It allows you to do a lot of your work in SD (and thus plays smoothly), and then swap back to HD for final clean-up/render. They offer a free trial - it worked well for me with editing AVCHD footage.

[disclaimer: I have no relationship with Vaast, just a happy customer]

Chris.
