Speed Up a Clip...

How do I speed up a specific clip, and have the following clips
close the gap between clips that speeding up to 200% creates.

If I use the link icon in the speed duration menu, it just speeds up the
clip and loops into the next clip.

My work around has been, speed up the clip, then drag every clip past
the sped up clip to the right edge of this new speedy one...

Thinking about going to Final Cut Pro!

If I understand correctly, all you have to do is right-click on the gap and select 'Ripple Delete'.

Just grab the tool that looks like an arrow pointing to the right. It's called the "track Select" tool. Then just click on the first clip after your sped up clip, the first one you need to move, and move it where it needs to be. Every other clip on that track will also move.
See - simple, no need to jump to another NLE just because you can't figure out a simple trick like that.

Adjusting the speed of a clip (especially time mapped ones) will always affect the length of a clip so I always move the clip to a new vid track with clear space before applying the change. Its just part of the deal that you have to deal with the "gaps" and to automate it anyway could cause other problems in the timeline.

Thanks guys,
Oh, it wasn't just this simple trick that steers me away from APPro,
It is many factors. I started in Vegas, moved to Avid, now on to Adobe.
I figure Final Cut Pro was just the next logical step.
BTW, what's with all the f**in' rendering in Adobe.
It seems every time I get up to piss, I return and something else
needs rendering. If I could combine all three NLE's listed above for one
super app, and win the lotery, and have my 17 year old son not have
an attitude for just one day, and,and,and...

Merry Christmas!

Do you find that other NLEs require less rendering? What's great about Premiere (and has been for a while) is that it doesn't ***** about showing you realtime-rendered effects, even if (because of inherent limitations with your hardware that no NLE is going to overcome) it has to show you a slightly lower-quality version. I'd much rather have this choice of rendering out a full-res version or seeing a mock-up preview.

Give it some time... I've found it's a pretty useful program, and once you get used to it you can do things really quickly. I hate working in Final Cut, but that's only because I'm not used to it and don't know the ins and outs. Little tricks like the one above really add up.
