Speed/duration

If I wanted to make a clip start off at a regular speed and slow down while it plays, how would I do it? I know about adjusting the speed but you can't keyframe it, or can you? PLease help :'(

Re: Speed/duration

MrGreen,

You can use your razor blade. Make a cut where you want the clip to slow down and change the speed. Um, I don't have my preimere open so I can't give you detail info right now. Give that a try if you haven't yet.

Re: Speed/duration

No, No, what I'm saying is for a clip to start off at full speed and then gradually slow down as the clip plays, the only way I can think of is to razor it at every frame. But there must be some other way

Re: Speed/duration

Unfortunatley you can't do this in Premiere (frustrating, I know) - What I've started using is Vegas - just for the clip where you need it to slow down - open the avi file up, then use the easy 'velocity envelope function'.

Apart from using other software, I think one or two Premiere plugins (Twixtor?) can do this for you as well. Failing that, It seems like you have to just cut the clip up into several (depending on the clip length, etc) miniclips and slow each down by say, 10% or whatever.

I think Prem is a great editor and I use it all the time - just a damn shame about it's lack of functionality with slowing down clips! >:(

"Damn shame"? Ok, how often are you slowing down clips in this manner? Working on a time change movie? ;)

Btw - Using the razor, cutting, and selectively changing the speed of each segment works and can give a good effect. You don't have to have that many cuts/segements unless you want a very slow decrease/increase in speed. I've done it a few times without any noticeable jumps in speed.

Re: Speed/duration

Where could I get those plug-in's and how much would they cost? I think I'll try clipping it up but then you have to turn it into a mathematical equation and I hate math

It's a style that's being used increasingly in many professional stylized sequences in movies.

Time remapping is used all the time in the industry and to great effect - personally, I always feel that "less is more" so it doesn't bother me as much, but if you've got a function that so many people are using, I think that it is a 'damn shame' Adobe haven't included a (fairly simple to impliment) feature in their latest incarnation of Premiere.
