Speed changed in FCP

Whenever I change the speed of my clips in the FCP timeline everything else moves with it. Is there a setting somewhere I can turn off? This is driving me crazy!

Making a constant speed change to a clip alters the length of the clip, that's why the change in your timeline. If you use a variable speed change, like fit to filll your timeline will not change but probably won't give you the effect you want.

I'm new to FCP so I don't know about a button to solve this issue. However, an easy work around is to place the clip that you want to change the speed on into a different video track from the rest of your timeline, make the changes you want, trim the clip and place it back into the original video track.

There are several ways to do this. You can, like I do, always make a Temp Work Space Sequence to do experiments and weird adjustments. Double click your clip to open in Viewer, open Temp Work Space Sequence, drop it in there, change speed, trim to lenght, double click to open in Viewer, paste back into original Sequence.

There are seveal ways to do this. But if you set in and out points, FCP assumes that's the in and out points you want. Slow the clip down, the in and out points don't change, they stay where you put them.
