specific settings - rendering out HD footage to After Effects

Vegas 7. HD footage from HV20. 24p.

Does anybody have specific settings they use to render HD footage out of Vegas into After Effects?

Basically I'm stuck using Quicktime since that's about the only quality codec Vegas renders out that After Effects accepts (for example - .avi and .wmv quality sucks). The problem comes when I try to find a compression method for Quicktime. It seems like everything I choose (uncompressed, TIFF, JPEG, whatever) comes out garbled. We're talking a heavy pink tint over the entire image with thin green lines every 1/3 of the picture or so. Or just noisy vertical lines. Loud popping audio then all of a sudden the playback stops. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it's frustrating to say the least. Especially since I'll probably have to settle for whatever works instead of the best possible output option. *sigh*

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

I don't think that .avi quality sucks. Vegas comes with Cineform support. Just make sure that's what you have picked under the custom .avi settings.

Neither .avi nor .mov (Quicktime) is a "codec." They're just wrappers; you have the choice of many codecs to use for each.

It's hard to say why you're getting what you're getting without having your render settings, and by that, I mean details -- what codec (format) -- not just ".avi" or "Quicktime," but what video format you chose within the render settings for each or either. Need to know bitrate (if applicable), frame size, keyframe info -- everything. And frame rate, because the HV20's 24p implementation has been tripping people up quite a bit. Just saying you rendered as ".avi" or "Quicktime" or even ".wmv" isn't enough info.

David, when rendering to QuickTime (Sorensen 3) what are we to put in the "KEYFRAME EVERY __ " box?

24, if we're on a 24P timeline?

Thanks.
