What is the best special effect or after effect program to use on movies edited with Vegas 6?

The NLE you use doesn't have much to do with it.
Most people 'round these parts swear by After Effects.
Frankly, I haven't needed to go outside Vegas for some time.

It also depends on your budget and what kind of effects you are looking for. If its particle effects like smoke, fire, water, explosions, etc. you can’t beat ParticleIllusion. Simple to use, very fast, and not too expensive. Packages like Boris RED and Bauhaus Mirage also have some great effects (as does After Effects). It also depends on how much time you want to invest. Some are easier to use than others.
Personally, I don’t buy software that doesn’t offer a downloadable demo. If I can’t try it to see how it fits my workflow, I don’t buy it. I recommend you download a few demos and check them out.

I am a big fan of After Effects personally. I am 99% sure you can download a Demo.
