Special Effect Lighting

Alright, there's a specific shot I'm going for that I need help lighting.

All that's in the shot is a short hallway and a door leading outside. When the door opens I want the Minority Blown out look (probably using a fogger to get light beams showing) but then a character walks forward he partially blocks the light and is seen only in [FONT=&quot]silhouette. Any help on where to place lights to get this effect would be greatly appreciated.

If the door actually leads to outside and it's daytime while you're shooting it will probably create the effect all by itself. Just expose for the interior hallway. The amount of contrast will be so great that the outside will just blow out. You can probably add some kind of diffusion filter to your lens to soften it so it doesn't look so harsh.

You might still want to add some light to the interior of the hallway depending on taste.

Also any light in the hallway will have to be daylight balanced, If your tungsten use a full CTB if you have flourescent, well good luck.

You can also get 2-3 4x8ft pieces of foam core, and stand them vertically out side the door. Let the sun hit them and like bcheong said, expose for the interior. The further your subject comes down the hallway, the light should fall off (the walls) and your actor will them become more of a silhouette.. If you can't angle the foam core into the sun, fire two 1k lights covered with blue gel or HMI's into them...
