Speakers & editing

Hey guys. I want to use my speakers while editing a film, to better hear what I'm cutting. The monitor just doesn't have the same range. The problem is, when I use the speakers they seem to lag behind in audio. Any idea why, is there a setting I'm overlooking? Thanks.

When I play back the audio from the timeline, the audio coming out of the speakers is lagging behind. Out of synch. But, on the editing monitor (Not the computer monitor) it plays fine.

Most software has a slight delay between the OHCI audio and video (NTSC monitor) and the computers audio card and VGA screen. The VGA and sound card should sync with each other but they may not sync with the OHCI devices. It sounds like you are tying to edit with an NTSC monitor and use your sound card for audio. If that is the case take the audio that is connected to the NTSC monitor and connect it to your stereo system.

Ah, now that makes sense, thanks I will try that. That's exactly what I've been trying to do with the audio, you hit it on the head...

Thanks medeamajic, I added a coupler in-between my DSR-11 and my speakers, and bang it works great. Thanks for the help.

There is also a preference in FCP (don't remember exactly where it is at the moment) that allows you to select an offset of a few frames for purposes of compensating for the lag between audio and video so the two will be in sync. Check your manual.

It really is best to connect the speakers to the proper source. If you're doing desktop playback that's the computer line out. If you're monitoring over DV, that's the DV deck or camera.
