Spaghetti Westerns

Blaine

Mr. Hollywood
Best Spaghetti Westerns

Okay, I have and have watched:
Once Upon a Time in the West
A Fistful of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Django
The Great Silence

I'm looking to get perhaps five more from Amazon and trying to weed through all their recommendations. I know that the quality of Spaghetti Westerns can really be spotty. So what I'm asking for are recommendations from users here who have seen some of the better ones that I have not listed.

A Fistful of Dynamite (Duck You Sucker!)

High Plains Drifter (Not sure if this qualifies as a Spaghetti Western, but still great)

High Plains Drifter is a great movie, but here, I'm looking to the Italian directors like Corbucci and Leone and their contemporaries.

type in spaghetti western on wikipedia... if i remeber they give a list of some good ones.

Thanks. Now, I'm finding that, depending on what version you are able to find, the running times can be vastly different. Geesh.

If you hand Clint Eastwood a hat and slap him on a pile of poop, I will like it. You have already listed my favorites. There are still a good few that I need to see.

Here are a couple, actuallly three, that I've been wondering about:

My Name Is Nobody - Henry Fonda & Terence Hill, directed by Sergio Leone
A Bullet for the General - Gian Maria Volonte & Klaus Kinski, directed by Damiano Damiani
If You Meet SARTANA Pray for Your Death - John Garko, directed by Frank Kramer (real name Gianfranco Parolini)

death rides a horse
all the various djangos
all the various trinities

I'm a huge spaghetti western fan but the sad thing is that there are only 3 KICKASS spag westerns.... they rest are ...... well the dont compare

fistul of dollars, for a few dollars more, the good the bad the ugly..... thats the holy grail

once upon a time in the west was good but it didnt have the gritty rawness of the earlier three..... OUATITW was big budget, holywood-esque.... the beauty of the earlier three was that they were low budget, gritty, dirty, black humor, quirky music

I ordered it from barnes and noble... just make sure to get the blue underground version.... theres quite a few versions of the various djangos floating around out there.... the original is by far the best

django kill, if you live, shoot! (dir guilio questi)
django rides again (dir enzo castellari)
run man run (dir sergio sollima)
mannaja, a man called blade (dir sergio martino)
four of the apocalypse (dir lucio fulci)
companeros (dir sergio corbucci)
keoma (enzo castellari)
a bullet for the general (dir damiano damiani)
texas adios (dir ferdinando baldi)

these are all spag westerns that are good for what they are.... cult/camp..... but they are just plain inferior to Leone's trilogy

I agree with movie stunts, you gotta check out the Trinity series. A bit of humor really makes up for the bad dialogue/dubbing, and weak acting.

As far as the Clint Eastwood spaghettis, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly is the best. Lee Van Cleef was excellent.

Be sure to check out "The Spagetti West" if you haven't already.

by the way, where the heck can I find the original Django?
Thanks for the heads up on The Spaghetti West. I saw it on IFC. I just ordered it from IFC so I'll have it here for reference.

Django, I got it here:
http://www.amazon.com/Django-2-Disc...pd_bbs_sr_1/102-7387445-3975364?ie=UTF8&s=dvd
but if you'd rather get it at B&N:
http://video.barnesandnoble.com/sea...archType=TTL&FRM=0&quickSearchText=django&z=y

Django all the way. I haven't seen at as many times as others because the middle is pretty boring, but there are 3 or 4 iconic moments in that movie that represent what's awesome about spaghetti westerns to me.

and as far as shitty 60's pop songs in spaghetti westerns go Django's is the best.

I just got back from our cabin in northern Michigan. We keep a ton of goofy movies to watch when we are not skiing or snowmobiling. We watched the Trinity series this weekend and it was great, again. We've been watching that set for years and had to replace it a few times, but we all love it.

Just got A Bullet for the General today. I've got two screenplays to read tomorrow. If I get that done...I'll be checkin' out A Bullet...

The Great Silence is a good one. A bit different as it takes place during the winter and in the snow. Corbucci directs. Music by Morricone. One of the best non-Leone spaghetti western's out there!

I agree. Very good movie. btw, they used shaving cream for much of the snow in town.

Just found a nice boxed full-aperture restored/remastered/etc copy of "Once Upon a Time in the West" at Target for $12.99.

$12.99?!

They don't know what they're selling, there.
