Beavers in wet places and very loud spaces, like myself, absolutely love Audio Technica AT897 mics. However, by the time you mount this long mic to the factory holder on the HVX200 and then throw a softie on it, you have a problem.
With this combo you'll see the tip of a fury mic in the view of your HVX200. We were in a hurry to our first shoot that weekend and needed a quick fix.
Our Mayor, besides being a good guy, happens to be a metal fabricator too. So we measured the height we needed to clear the mic out of view with the furry, and added a little more distance just for good measure. hehehe
So in the end we got a nice little chunk of aluminum that screws in to the diagonal base at the bottom, and then the mic holder itself screws into that.
The length of this piece is about 2 1/8 inch long. And we get the added bonus of the mic clearing the big ass french hood on my Matteblox HD!

As you can see its a pretty straight up deal. Maybe we'll do something prettier but for the last several months it been just great.
