Southland

Mr. Hollywood
Well, if they're trying to make it look like reality tv, I think they've succeeded. This thing looks like the Amateur Hour. I'm sure a lot of people will like the extreme handheld look and whip pans, but I just find it annoying.

Not to mention the acting, dialogue, all handheld... :zombie_smiley: (actually, you did mention the last one!)

Every time my gf says she wants to watch it (so far only seen the 1st ep aired here in Toronto), I tell her the only reason I'm wasting time watching it in 3 words: SHOT ON RED.

I've been interested in seeing this for quite a while now. I accidentally caught the tail end of it one night, and it hasn't been on since, but it looked ok. A little odd, but not bad.

They've introduced bleeped out curse words now... Seems like a cheap attempt to be "hip", not working.

The bleeped out curse words it just plain stupid. No one bleeps anymore they just mute the word. The swearing does not help the show in any way so there is no point in including swearing in the script.

This was made from the same guy as ER, look for it on creative cow. The last few episodes were on RED for ER so they wanted to use it on Southland. A steadicam would be a nice investment to the show.

heh, a lot more than a steadicam would help this show...

But, as always, it boils down to the story. And this show has delivered. Haven't read if it will be back for season 6 but it looks doubtful, unfortunately.
