Source Text Expression

I am trying to create an expression or let me just tell you what I want to accomplish first.

I have like 6 Text Layers in a project that are doing various things but they all have the same exact text in them. I want to make a null object have a box to type in some text and have all those text layers get their text from that one null object. In other words, I have a project template we use for tons of animations daily and we change out the backgrounds and have to edit each text layer, I want to have an easier route where you change the text once and all those layers use that text. Anyone? Thanks!

I figured out a way to do it with a text layer that is hidden instead which works... BUT.. Got another problem...

One of the layers has that typed text as like say the word is "black history month", then there are 6 or 7 text layers with those words like it says there, but one of them has the word multiple times and scrolling up the screen slowly like credits going up in a way. How can I make an expression that just repeats the source text?

Something like this: (?)

thisComp.layer("EDIT - 3rd Text").text.sourceText + thisComp.layer("EDIT - 3rd Text").text.sourceText

(and so on.... )

Actually I need that text repeated 15 times with a CARRIAGE RETURN (ENTER KEY) after each one so it can look something like credits going up.

Any help?

If you're using Cs3+
I think one way to link text layers all to one is to parent the "source text" to each other.

Twirl down all the text layers, then twirl out "text", alt click on the "source text" stopwatch and pickwhip all the layers' "source text" to one layer. Time consuming now but it will save time later.

hope it helps

EDIT: Expression for "Source Text" is: thisComp.layer("MASTER_TEXT_LAYER").text.sourceText

Thanks but I figured out that much and already knew I could use Source Text, just wanted to know if there was a way I can do this with a Null, possibly making 1 null for 3 different sets of source text setups. But right now Im trying to figure out how to make one source text say another source text's text but only 15 times with an ENTER between each... Know how to do that?

You almost had the expression right
heres the expression that should work for you:
thisComp.layer("word").text.sourceText+"\r"+thisComp.layer("word").text.sourceText

\r is a carriage return in javascript

so just copy +"\r"+thisComp.... as many times as you need

hope this helps haha

Hey I am using CS3 and i did what you said, it just made it say this :

source text/rsource text...
meaning that "/r" just added in between the text I put... So that carriage return didn't work. Is there another way or something I was suppose to do?

Haha, hey man, slow down with your posts, thats the second one where I gave the answer to my problem and then you post it again :-P

I really appreciate the help though! Thank you!
