Source Code - Duncan Jones follow up to Moon

Trailer is intriguing. Seems like it could collapse under the weight of its own concept, with too many arbitrary rules, but Moon was good so I'll give Duncan the benefit of the doubt.

Arbitrary is exactly what I thought when I heard 8 minutes. Saw the trailer earlier today, kind of disappointed to find out it's Duncan Jones since I didn't like it much. Gave away pretty much the entire story?

Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting for the "Quantum Leap meets Groundhog Day" concept to take off?

I dunno, looks like a very generic actioner taking what might be good ideas and just hammering them into a by the numbers plot, barely above the level of a First Person Shooter video game.

I though Moon was a kind of sloppy film that really missed its potential though...

What I really liked about Moon was the sort of subtle '60s style Duncan Jones wrapped it in. Was kinda hoping we'd see more of that in this, or at least the stylistic homage to Blade Runner he suggested in interviews. This looks like a M. Night film. Hope I'm wrong!

I enjoyed this quite a bit. It was actually a pretty simple concept but you have to be willing to 'go with it' in order to have it work. My only real gripe was the ending. I would have picked an earlier spot to end the film at, that's all I'll say. :)

I agree. It was very simple, well put together, and solid all the way through. I also agree about the ending, and seems like a lot of critics have the same consensus.

SPOILER ALERT!:

HIGHLIGHT BELOW
When he found the bomb maker it could have just ended there. But they set it up for more. However afterwards I felt he couldn't have any real impact over the course of events, so him going back just felt like a pointless attempt. It left me sitting there thinking "why am I watching this? What's the point?" and then it ended on the kiss (should have ended there, and gotten there much faster IMO).

The whole time paradox alternate timeline aspect just wasn't needed. If it didn't have it, it would have been much much better.

So, I'm going through some old documents, and came across this concept I had 10 years ago. Sound familiar?

A movie set entirely in one location, possibly a diner -- A time traveler keeps showing up at the diner to figure out who's carrying a bomb, which explodes every ten minutes. He leaps back in time just before the explosion and keeps trying to find out who planted the bomb before it goes off, although he only has a finite number of opportunities to do it.

Why didn't I write this? (kicks self in the head)

I guess it's not surprising, though, since Hollywood can't come up with new material...

Yes, and I was going through some old documents and came across an idea I had. I went like this: Boy meets girl. Boy loses girl. Bot gets girl back. Why would you kick yourself for not writing a non-original idea that became a movie based on a non-original idea?

Bot gets girl back...You mean he makes an android to get his girlfriend back? I smell a blockbuster.
