Is there any way in FCPX to hide or filter clips that have already been used in the timeline?

I don't think so, but of course the latest upgrade is very helpful because it shows I/O points selected. Before that was added the advice I followed was to just mark Favorites as you added a clip to the Project Timeline. Then "used" clips will be marked by a green line. I just trained my fingers to hit f then e (or w) to toss it into the Timeline. Once marked as a Favorite, you can then choose to show just the clips that are not marked. Of course, if you use a lot of Keywords though this would also hide them as well.

Maybe one of these workarounds would accomplish what you're after. Or maybe someone more knowledgeable knows a better way
