soundtrack plays back fine, but sounds different on export???

fyi, export is set to pull audio from the master mix, stereo AIFF, with no weird settings.

the clip plays back alright, i export it, and everything goes haywire. my compressor doesn't compress, entire sections of audio at the beginning and end are muted. the whole program breaks down it seems. i thought it was just an export thing, but i am witnessing now that it happens arbitrarily while still working within the program, prior to export.

anyone have any experience with soundtrack goofing like this? its a large audio clip (over two hours), so is it possible its just breaking down? ram issue or something?

my deadline is very soon! any help is greatly appreciated.

i must say though, i usually play back audio (mp3s, etc) at 44.1, and video stuff at 48. i've never had to re configure my audio hardware settings just to export from soundtrack. is there a reason i had to do this THIS time? does soundtrack have some threshold where it breaks down and requires manually changing settings like this?

whats the deal...
