sound(through camera)

How does the dvx do with sound directly recorded into it(not the camera mic but a shotgun). Have a last minute project (commercial shoot)with very little equipment available.
 
I shot a feature that way and Like 10s said it can sound great if done right. I actually prefered it over the external CDR Marrantz recorder we purchased.
 
Pretty much what everyone else said. If possible I would get a MixPre or some other mic pre/ mini mixer that has a good limiter to act as a front end but that is more for convenience and the safety of a nice limiter. The DVX does quite decent recording.
