sound synch off by 3 or 4 seconds

I'm using FCE4.1 on an iMac with a firewire 800 external drive. I captured a bunch of HDV footage the other day and it seemed to edit in synch fine. But that was before I updated from FCE4 to FCE4.1 When I opened Final Cut today I got a prompt that that said it couldn't locate External Audio, whatever that means. Why can it suddenly not locate External Audio? I started editing anyway and the sound was there, but then I noticed the synch was off by a good 3 or 4 seconds.

Might this have something to do with the update? More importantly, how can get External Audio recognized?
 
I think you need to take out the sound track completely. Re-import it. Then sync it up again. It should work fine after that.
