Yupr, help needed!

Question: On a short I'm filming can I use my Zoom PS04 to record the sound? It is a 4 track portable mixer/recorder/digital effects/drum machine/bass machine that records in AIFF(?) and .wav formats onto SD cards.
Then all I would have to do is jack the SD card into my reader and have it available for Audition 1.5. It has two inputs for mics; also has a built-in electret mic but can be manually shut off.
It cost me $199 w/ free shipping and works awesome as a portable studio...the built-in mic is good if you're in a controlled/sound-proof room. Small, lightweight, has a four track mixer on front.
Has anyone used one for this? How would it diifer than DAT; other than save me a bundle of time by uploading the sound via USB 2.0?

Not good (although some portastudios would work well in controlled circumstances).

First is, it doesn't have phantom power so mic choice will be limited or you will be buying a phantom power source. Second, those aren't really mic inputs. One is a Hi-Z input and the other is a line in. The on board mic is NOT a good option. A/D conversion is low rate, your dealing with oversampling and your sample rate is less than CD quality.

Also, I've used the PS04 to record music that we burned onto CD...quality not an issue at all. Am I missing something? I always thought that the harmonics and dynamic ranges necessary to record music were more demanding than recording human voice and ambient sound? I understand the Hi-Z and line in sit., after all, these are built to be jacked directly to instruments...

Well, I don't own one, but I think based on specs and what I hear on this board, that you'd be better off recording to your DVX.
