sound question

hey guys, ive never tried using fcp before. im really interested in getting a mac for editing. i have a question related to the audio on the timeline in fcp.
lets say i wanna use an mp3 for editing a video, now i wanna listen to it by moving on the timeline and match clips to the music. does the sound of the mp3 or any other audio format get all messed up and noisy when you move on the time line in fcp? (like in premiere 1.5 for example) or does it cache the audio file so it could play smoothly? its real hard for me to exactly match clips to the music in premiere.

Audio is normally set for 48k for video. You can put other rate video in (normally mp3 and CD's are at different rate) but they need to be 'rendered'. Use QT pro to convert itno 48k audio (fcp doesn't do a very good job of converting)
You should be able to zoom in on the timeline to get fine control.

My experience with FCP is that if you import an MP3 directly into FCP, it is handled poorly. It is definately advisable to convert to AIFF or WAV before using in FCP. Optimally you would not use an MP3 anyway, but the original source.

Yes, you need to convert to AIFF or WAV. FCP doesn't like compressed sound. The conversion is easy with a MAC using either QT Pro or iTunes.
