Sound package question

Hey guys, I looked in the FAQ first to no avail. I want to do this short side project and want to spend under $1k for a sound package, or buy individually, whatever you guys suggest. I'd like a shotgun, couple lavs, mixer, nothing fancy, but I want decent sound of course.

Am I selling myself short with this? Can I get solid sound for this budget, in a package? Sound is just not my forte', guess I need to become more familiar, as it's become very important to me.

Anyway, it's for small room interiors w/dialogue, and a few street exteriors w/dialogue.

I'd like some links to reputable sources to purchase your recommendations. I basically need everything needed for a location shoot...under 1k (if possible) Thanks.

By the way, I won't be the one operating sound, don't worry ;)
And, this will be on DVX, of course.

You can't get anything worth using, new, for $1000 for the entire package. You need to buget closer to $2000 for the equipment you listed.

I would take that money, and put it towards rental of good equipment, you'd be better off.

Makes sense, what rental outlets do you suggest in So Cal. San Diego has been pretty limited, so I'll be looking in the LA area I suppose. Thanks again.

IN LA, Coffey is one of the best I deal with, Location sound is a couple of blocks away, but at coffey they can put a nice package together.......

i can arenge you first hand  used small packege
wendt x2 two channel mixer ( better then sound devices mix pre)
used 416 t mike or used SONY
short gun mike - 74 THAT shorted( from behind) to fit every normal zeppelim
camera mixer cable , xlrs , used  cavision sepelin , rycote  2 point suspention  
2 trams  in exellent shape ( one like new)that you need to buy ph to dc adapters since they wiered to use with lectrosonic transmitters
