Sound library

Hello,

I'm looking for a large sound library of ambiences (ex: city rush hour, ocean waves) and effects for mixing in post-production. I know Sony offers a nice collection but I was wondering if you guys know other alternatives.

Thanks for your help

Why not record it yourself?. When I started out my field recording kit was a Sony mindisk and an Audio Technica AT825 plus a few other mics that I already owned. Since ambiences are "noise" anyway the little bit of noise from my cheap rig didn't matter much, especially after a little EQ and the ambiences were pulled back into the mix.

For ambiences I like the Sound Ideas 14,000 series, which is all ambiences recorded at 24/96. I think having a good Foley library is hugely important for lower budget films. You'll get lots of standard Foley stuff, but also lots of crashes and other stuff that makes for excellent sweeteners. I like The Art of Foley and the Foley Sound Library. Digital Juice used to sell a couple of cheap general FX libraries, but I haven't seen them on their website in a while.

The SFX libraries have been on sale for $99 for the last couple of weeks.
Personal opinion but 96 is BS, most of the time. Recording your own #1. SI is OK but a lot of it is way too dry. Hollywood Edge has more "organic" sounds.Cheers
