I'm workin on a doc, and the interview i did with my main subject was with a external shotgun, on camera, and it definitly wasnt close enough. Im just lookin for some ideas on how to bump up the audio in vegas, without getting amplifed feedback. Should i double the audio? But i think that will double any feedback or low hum. Im in a jam, any advice would be appreciated.

Im runnin Vegas 6 by the way.

Try the track compression plugin for your audio track. That will help, but may also boost any noise as well. You may have to use a compressor in conjunction with an eq to isolate and enhance the vocal frequencies.

welcome. Audio compression (not to be confused with compression ala .jpg .mp3) is a good way to bring out and even up sound. Personally, I use the +2 db at -18 and bumb it to +3, and that with a few other tweakes really evens out my audio, especially with musicals where some parts are one vocal and one piano, and other parts are a full orchestra and 10 singers. I like it better evern than Normailzation.

good luck

I've ran into similar scenarios in the past... try to find the frequencies of the voice with an EQ and boost those signals, while turning down the frequencies of the ambient noise. A limiter or compressor will boost the signal but will equally raise everything including ambient room noise. ...hopefully most of the vocals are in a different frequency range as the ambience.

...there are also some software plug-ins out there to help as well.

I had a equal experience in having a low hum when shooting in a car. I used the Oktava Mk012 but after increasing the volume it also add more noise..I then added ambient city sounds as background noise on another timeline and it enhanced the experience and also drowned out the low hum without affecting the dialog.
