Hi guys, I´m looking for a sound guy for this feb 2010, we´re shooting a feature film in Guatemala, Central America. We are a super small company here in Guatemala, so the budget its so tight that It will be just a little money for a month. We have the 788T and Sennheiser mics for this project.

So, If anyone is interested in this project shoot me an email,
rafa@codicecinema.com

.... Just a note for future projects, nearly if not all competent sound guys own their own gear. Telling a sound guy the gear he "gets" to use during production (when he'll likely own similar if not superior gear) is akin to telling a plumber he should work for cheaper because he "gets" to fix a really nice toilet.

I couldnt agree more, although there is one very smart guy in my city.
He does sound but doesn't own a drop of his own gear.
Instead, because of that fact, he has 3-4 very established soundmixers (myself included) who make him
their first call if we cant do a job. Why?

Because I can now get a gear rental on a job I dont physically have to do.
He gets his day rate and doesn't have to worry about the expense of gear.

Win/win.
Very smart.

Say for the moment that this is a 'real deal'... would you want to take your gear to Guatemala... at any price... rental or otherwise...

I wasn't referring to the original poster when I posted above.

But if it was full rate for me and my gear. Sure.

Sounds like any number of Craigslist or Mandy.com ads where they say the budget is low but somehow find the money to pay the camera guy a full rate AND rent gear for him.

So as to not let this thread go to complete waste, what's the average rate for a sound person on a micro-budget flick?

I've been doing sound for almost 3 years and am at a "once every few months" gig rate. I had a mix pre but then sold it because at my level they only seem to pay 150-200 a day and they are either, students who get gear for the school, or some how already have gear.
25% of the gigs I see advertised ask for you to have your own gear but don't pay more. I look on CL and production hub. 90% of my gigs are from people I already know though. NYU has great gear while SF film academy has gear I'd never use again.
