Hey all. I am working on a project that is set in a spaceship which contains a futuristic assembly line. I need some effects and loops for use in Soundtrack Pro. I need a lot of metallic sounds, assembly line noises, futuristic device sounds, etc...Just wondering if any of you have suggestions on sound packs I can buy or download for Soundtrack Pro. Thanks all.

Honestly, if you went out around with a mic and DAT recorder (or even a mic hooked up to the DVX), you can find plenty of interesting noises that would fit your bill.

Something like that seems like a rather complicated thing. Usually it would take many layers of elements to come up with a good sound design for that. What are you using for a DAW?

As a generally good place to start for all kinds of things mechanical and switchy I would go to "The Works". But that may be too pricey for your needs. Are you using a DAW? I'm assuming your strictly in the FCP/STP work flow. As a general thing "loops" don't work well for FX except maybe in backgrounds, they end up sounding "loopy".
My first advice wuld be to get yourself a sound person. But that probably isn't going to happen so the second is to record stuff. Get it into STP or some other audio program and slow it way down. Many things take on s strange and "futurey" sound when slowed way down. Also don't try to get "the sound" get parts of "the sound" and stack up the parts to get "the sound". A lot of the SiFi sound people expect is just switches and clicks and such. But it's a LOT of assembly.
good luck

I recently bought Digital Juice's SoundFX package (they had it on sale for $250) and it comes with over 11,000 sounds, packaged in four catagories. You'll find a TON of the type of stuff you're looking for in the NoiseFX category, tons of drones, metalic sci-fi stuff. I'm a big fan of Digital Juice, and the SoundFX library is awesome.

Well I wouldn't go that far. It is a pretty good value though. The 11,000 includes a bunch of music cuts and a bunch of voice stuff that isn't that useful to many folks, though it is one of the main reasons I bought it, and the price is not at that special any more so the value is??? I did a longer review a while ago but basically it has a lot of sounds some are very good some are very cheesy. It has a bunch of production music and voice stuff that is perfect for creating fake TV commercials and such, which is hard to do from scratch. Over all it's OK. If you layer them up they get better.

I take it back they have another special going on and it's $250 till July 26th. So it is a Good deal again. At a list of $699 not so great.

And they do have a bunch of "noise" FX that probably would work well in a SiFi film.
