Sound Devices 442 Batteries - Which Way?

I just bought a 442. Neither the unit nor the manual give any indication which way the batteries go in. Does it matter?

I recommend getting a BDS. You will go through AA's like they are going out of style. Especially if you are phantom powering any mic's. I have one in each of my bags, even for the small 302. A BDS makes things MUCH simpler and better.

Huh... I found that my 552 last almost all day with a boom and 2 lavs. My lectros on the other hand...

BTW, why does BDS cost only $330 but 2 NPL7s with a charger is $700?

We just ordered a very nice budget friendly bds kit including the following:

hawkwoods npb-sq4ns (a bds system all in the np battery cup) new $265
two eBay China np1 nimh style batteries with 4000mah - $160
used nicad/nimh charger with an extra two used batteries: $75

the reason the L7S batteries/charger are so expensive is that they can power a big audio bag for a long time and will last virtually forever. Also they are Li-ion and not nimh. If you're looking for a similar system but cheaper look up the Varizoom KL-5N package for $500.
