Sound Devices 302- wireless back to camera possible?

Hi everyone.
I just bought a sound devices 302, its still on its way. Now I'm attempting to purchase all the accessories I'm going to need. I hate the idea of thinking I need to be tethered to my camera with all the xlr cables leading from the mixer to the hvx. Is it possible(and does such a thing exist) to have a wireless connection feeding my hvx the sound devices 302 signal. If these things exist, how much? Do they effect the audio quality? Are they reliable? And what do all you pro's prefer, the traditional xlr method, or wireless?
thanks!

There are lots of wireless camera hop options - but if you want it to be fairly bullet proof, and sound pretty much like cabled audio, there are only two choices - Lectrosonics 411's or Zaxcom's. Lectros will run you about $2,500, Zaxcom's will run you about $4,000. Same thing holds true for wireless boom (basically same setup, with possibly the addition of a phantom power adapter somewhere in the chain).

Look at getting a "beta" snake. There are cables sold that have two XLR's and a headphone cable all morphed into one cable with a breakaway plug somewhere close to the camera end. This way you can monitor directly off the camera and have two channels of audio sent. These come in various lengths, and the good ones are a bit pricey (though not as much as the wireless options). With the breakaway connector, you just unplug one plug, leave the three plugs in the camera and mixer so moves go really quick without lots of plugging and unplugging.

This does not, btw, help you eliminate being tethered. Nor does it work particularly well in steady cam situations. If you really don't want to be tethered, buy a recorder and run double system.

you can also make your own snake with two 15' XLRs and a 15' ipod adapter (3.5mm trs to 2 rca). I plug into the cam RCA outs so the headphone jack on the cam is free for the cam operator.

a wireless system is way out of my price range right now. what size/type/brand of XLR are you pros using to lead from the mixer back to the camera? any 'industry standard?'

sorry for all the posts, just one more question. what is the exact name/brand of this breakaway cable that 'ptalsky' suggested, anywhere good to get them used?
thankyou!!

To clarify Phil's numbers...that is $2000 per channel Lectro and $4000+ per channel Zaxcom. In addition you will need a wireless return for monitoring. This can be pretty crappy, like a comtek or G2.

Cheers

Actually Wabbit, isn't the Zaxcom Stereoline about $4K for the two channels? I got my Goldline for $1300, so I don't know what the actual pricing is on the Steroline.

and, if anyone wants a Comtek setup, I have one I'd be happy to sell. :-)

Can`t you just feed 302`s line level outputs to ATW1800 transmitters with XLR(F) to hirose cables (AT XLRW) therefore you will pass the shitty amps in transmitters and send stereo diversity signal to your camcorder. That ATW 1800 (1821) runs for $999 in B&H and the cables are $20 per piece. But as I haven`t used the system myself I can`t confirm the quality of the system when used in that way, maybe someone can chime in on the ATW 1821 system quality when it is used with line level input that is amplified with quality preams like 302. But still this configuration lacks the wireless tape output option.

I would like to know,
T
