Sound Cutting In Final Cut Pro

1) Should I do all my sound cutting in Soundtrack Pro or in Final Cut Pro?

2) Do I need to lay in "track fill" so to speak on the empty tracks between my effects or in electronic editing is it fine to have an empty track and then an effect and then an empty track an then an effect again. Or do you get sound pops sometimes doing it that way?

Thx

I do all of my sound cutting in FCP, just seems to be easier that way. When you want to adjust the sound, you can either edit the whole source file in STP, or you can export your now cut-up audio and put into a new self contained file to be adjusted in STP.

It's destructive vs. non-destructive editing basically.

Oh, and to answer question #2, you only have to put in "track-fill" if it is room noise so that you can make the audio stay consistent.

Well I do allot of my initail editing in FCP but then when I start to get into the final audio mix I use sound track pro. Allot of the filters that sound track has are so valable to use. it is very easy to import your project into soundtrack you just select everything right click and tell it to send to soundtrack but the only bad thing is you have to export the mixed tracks and put it back in FCP as one track so you can't make any changes in FCP once you've done that. Now I might be wrong on this fact I throught you could save and your changes would be right back in FCP but I have found this not to be the case and if any one know how to do it then please share.

You are doing it the best way. That is non-destructive editing (meaning it does not harm your original source files).

The way to do it so that it is destructive editing is to right click on your audio while in FCP and select "open in editor". It will automatically open STP and then when you have saved changes, it will appear right back in the correct spots in FCP.
