Sound Board to Camera Transmitter

I'm beginning to shoot a lot of seminars and workshops. There is usually someone running a sound board. I would like to take the audio off the board and feed it into my camera. (Sony HXR-NX5U)

I have a cheap lav system, so I'm ready for an upgrade.
It's a shame to have this camera and crummy sound..

Suggestions please, I'm open to any ideas or paths to a better production.

Blessings,
David

Sound Board to Camera Transmitter

I want to keep it below $500.
I also need a descent lav setup, but not at the same time of recording.

Sennheiser G3 is worth the little extra money. But there is no need at all to degrade your audio coming off a sound board. Wireless audio is a last solution. Get a couple RCA to XLR adapters and go out of the board's "Tape Out". You should also have couple a 1/4" to XLR adapters too, as many sound boards feed out 1/4". Make sure you get the right male or female ends to run to your camera. Usually a 1/4" male to XLR male will work. If you are following a signal with xlr, it's usually male at the end of every connection starting at the source. A mic has male, your camera has female etc...

Nosys70,

Could you elaborate on the Sony UWP-V1. We have discussed Sennheiser and the more expensive Lectros and such, but haven't heard so much about the Sony units.

It is a nice LAV wireless mic, in you budget (lower than $450 at B&H) , works for hours on 2 AAA batteries, sound is good, has an input switchable from mic to line, emitter has a minijack to attach any kind of cheap video mic (like rod videomic on a boom) or to attach directly to the output of a mixer.
receiver output has minijack and xlr cable + minijack for monitoring (in case you do not have the camera switched on or available you can check sound with just the receiver.
