I got a new PC with inter grated sound on the motherboard.

This stopped working. Motherboard fault.

Bought SB sound card, have sound now, but......

I feel the realtek integrated sound sounds much much better, better quality.

Also, when I plug in my headfones using the SB card, the sound is pathetic.

How do I up the sound on my headfones and is there a programme i can install to improve sound quality?

I can send the PC back to have the motherboard fixed but this will take a week or 2 and I'm an impatient son of a *****.

Your choices appear to be:
1) Send the computer back to get the MB fixed.
2) Use a decent brand of plug-in sound card. Remember that many decent choices these days are USB and don't require opening the box.
3) Live with SoundBlaster with is the worst brand-name sound card. Those SB things are made for generating sound effects for shoot-em-up games and watching movies on your PC. If you want decent quality, you must chose something better than the lowest common denominator sound card.

What are you using the soundcards for?

I used the SB cards for ages before I upgraded. They're decent for home use, games, etc. If it's just for day to day work, (not recording, etc) then it should work fine - and you shouldn't need an expensive card. It shouldn't be crackling. The realtek is alo is a pretty simple, cheap card but it should do the job if you're just after basic home use.

Do you have the newest drivers? Head over to the Creative labs website, delete your drivers and start again. If you're having other issues with your PC, it may be worth having it looked at...

The M-Audio revolution is a pretty good card for a reasonable price. It really depends on what you're doing. The SB card's are just fine for a lot of things, and shouldn't be making strange noises. That's not normal. The problem here could be any number of things - your PC, driver conflictions, etc.

The SB card's usually have a control panel (C:\program files\Creative labs) where you can check your settings. Also in the control panel under sounds and devices.
