I know this has been covered to death but I didn't start using the DVX til the 'b' came out and so that's all I've ever dealt with. Now I'll be using the DVX100 (original) this weekend and I just want to know if I should be warned about anything. How different is it? What is it missing? What should I make sure I do? I'm shooting 24p 16x9.

Thanks,
Chris

The 100 doesn't have color bars or autofocus or gain in progressive-scan modes and it doesn't have "squeeze mode" or slow shutter speeds or peaking in the viewfinder, or cine-D, cine-V, or black press gammas, or knee control, and it can't focus as closely as the 100A and 100B.

There are complete lists of the new features in the 100A and the 100B in The DVX Book, but that's a pretty quick overview.

and the audio is going to not synch up in 24p after the pulldown I believe. That was a ***** to work with when the original came out.

man, barry just says it so much better ...

makes me think my original 100 is like a retarded cousin tho. lol.

without getting too technical here, the dvx100 does not have a letter at the end. the dvx100a is very similar to the original dvx100, but adds an "a" to the title.

the dvx100b takes it a step further. you may be thinking, the letter grade of "a" is better than the letter grade of "b". but no, we aren't in elementary school anymore. when it comes to cameras, you want to get the "b".

from there it gets a little more complicated. panasonic changes the "d" to an "h" and you get the hvx100, right? wrong. it's the hvx200. not only is the first letter different, but the numeric value is raised.

Okay, out of all those things, the biggest one that scares me is the audio sync. Is there a step by step process somewhere for how to deal with that?

1. Place your DVX100 on eBay.
2. Use the proceeds to put a down payment on DVX100a.

That's the simplest solution that I can conjure.

Just keep it in mind when editing. Select the audio track in FCP, press either the "+" or "-" key depending on which direction the audio is offset, type in 2, and press enter.
