i have sorenson with my axp and avid dvd. ive tried squeezing my projects but it takes forever and then i tried the same project going straight to qt and it looked and worked just the same but much faster. so im not sure if you even need sorenson unless your going blueray. but im only guessing

The real power in sorenson/avid wiorkflow is quick time reference. This is a file that wraps your avid media into a pointer file. The file is only a few k and comes out of export in seconds instead of minutes.

Import the QTref into sorenson and output to MPEG 2 for DVD.

The fastest way out of avid is QTref into AVID DVD and let the DVD program do the transcode on the burn. The burn will take about as long as encoding it in sorenson your self and does not give you the advance controls but it is one less process.

Render Animation codec and import that QT into sorenson and compress to desired output.

k from my timeling in axp export it as qt ref, then put it in sorenson then from there to avid dvd? is that correct? i had been doing from timeline to sorenson to avid dvd is that correct? it did take forever though?

thanks

Kinda new at this can you be a little more specific. When I choose an output module will it say 'Animation Codec'? Or animated gif? Because I dont see this option.

Do I need QTPRO ?

Thanks..

Quicktime reference output:

Automated Export
Mark the seq in the timeline. Right click in the record monitor and select send to Sorenson. This should export a Quicktime refernce and launch Sorenson with the file already loaded. As Jason said, you can also go directly to Avid DVD by sending to Avid DVD.

Manual Export
Mark the seq and select export - you'll see a pull down menu to select the type of export. The options include; OMF, Audio, Graphic, ALE, Quicktime Movie, Quicktime reference and a few other choices. Select the Quicktime reference option. Avid will export 2 files, a pointer file (MOV) that references the original video media and an audio file (WAV). After you launch Sorenson or Avid DVD import the the MOV file, the audio should automatically be imported as well.

As soon as I upgrade to 6.x I'll give this method a try. 5.x doesnt work on win7.

Sorensson Squeeze is a compression application, similar to Apple's Compressor or Telestreams Episode. It's not restricted to BluRay. It will compress to H.264, flv, wmv and a bunch of other formats. Regarding as to why it takes so long to compress it depends on a lot of factors; length of the source material, resolution of the source material, size/format of the output, bit rate (CBR, VBR), CPU speed, etc.
