Can someone take me through the procedure for turning 16x9 (shot on squeeze mode) to an .mov file via sorenson squeeze...Ive been doing a quicktime export then taking that sequence into sorenson squeeze, but it won't go to 16x9...only 4:3 with that stretched look...what am I doing wrong?

If you have 4.5:

Import your .avi (You can drag on drop it into the setting window at the bottom.)
In the setting window, select the .avi you just imported
Then set the aspect ratio to 16:9 (I think it's suppose to auto-detect, but it's never worked for me.. I always have the select it).

How much does Squeeze cost?

How much does Squeeze cost?

I'm on a low budget, and can't afford big bucks for a program like this. Is there a cheaper version or something that is compatable that will capture directly from the camera?

Which platform are you on?

David,

Are you editing on AVID? If you all you do is highlight your film and right click export. Once you see export - go to pick the type of file you want to export it to. Pick Sorenson. Before saving to Sorenson - go to OPTIONS. On the 1st page of options there will be a setting that say 4X3 - change that to 16x9. Then save it to sorenson. It will output a reference file. exit AVID. Go open up Sorenson - go to INPUT and bring the reference file in. U should be good from there. Also go to your Mpeg 2 DVD NTSC and you should change the settings for the best quality etc. Anywho best of luck

One more thing - when you pick your MPEG 1/2 setting in Sorenson Squeeze - make sure you double click on it. Hit advanced and CHANGE your with to 720 by 480. Scroll down and change the other setting from 4x3 to 16x9. If you don't change the width it won't give u the option for a widescreen DVD.

I'm working on FCP and I have the same problem. The solution I use is, I drag the movie sequence into a new timeline (embedded) and change the specs of that timeline to match a 4x3 aspect ratio. It kind of sucks because then you have to render like crazy (overnight) and then export it (overnight). from there, I then send it into Sorenson and it'll work fine. I shoot 720p w/ the HVX so the aspect ratio I use for the 4x3 timeline is 960x960.
