Sony's new codec....

Very, very cool. Creates a lot of additional appeal for the cameras, certainly makes the R7 a worthwhile option for F5 owners as well as F55 people. Between that and the 480 4k XAVC option, Sony are really delivering.

I'm impressed.

Great news! Makes my decision of getting rid of the FS7 and buying a F5 even a better one. Will definitely pick a R7 up when it comes out. This plus buying a F35 and I’m covered for pretty much any shoot.

Agree. Amazing how Sony can add additional value to the F55 nearly four years after it's release.
My thoughts too. It's probably one of the best camera purchases you could made. Sony is learning fast and I wouldn't be surprised to soon see them finally combat our gripes about colours.

You need an F55 to fully exploit the R7.

Only for the 120fps 4k. The F5 will still get all of the benefits of the new codecs (which is, frankly, the more exciting development) and cache recording. I couldn't see much reason for the R7 over the R5 with the F5 before, but after these details... well, I've changed my mind.

Do you think we could see the light version, at least at the lowest frame rate, added to something like an A7siii? Would it even be possible?
