Sony's answer to GH4?

Panasonic did a lot of things right with the GH4. It's not just 4K (which I have no interest in), but the fps (96p!), the codec (internal 200 Mbps All-I for 1080p), output options (10-bit 422), picture profiles (cine gamma, we still have to see how good it is but I've been crying for Panasonic to offer this since the GH2 hack), etc. I definitely wouldn't expect Sony (or Canon!) to offer anything close to all that, they've got a high-end line to protect. Maybe one thing (4K?), but that's about it.

And if it's only one thing that we're going to get, I would ask for the simplest one: a picture profile that keeps in video mode all the DR that the sensor has to offer.

I'd find an E-mount camera like this from Sony an interesting proposition. The Sony FE 55 1.8 is an intriguing lens to be able to use, seems deadly sharp. A ZF/PL mount would be a good idea though.

I suspect this camera has been cooking as more of a 1DC competitor, which will be disappointing if it costs much more than the GH4. The 1DC itself is pretty much over now, considering what cameras 1/10th the price can do now. That being said it's still holds value as one of the best pro stills cameras out there.

Dynamic range is so much more important for video.

Wow... 2014 is just here and already 4K cameras are coming from everywhere! This will be a great year:)

Seems like it will be a nice camera but it doesent look or sound like competition for the GH4

It might be more accurate to say it will be competition for the 1DC. The form factor alone kind of throws Gh4 comparisons out the window as it looks significantly larger and heavier. I am also guessing that the camera will be coming in at well over the $1500 that the GH4 is rumoured to be sold for.

Regardless, that looks like a pretty nice camera. It would be very cool if it came with Global Shutter like the F55

Sony will surely find a way to screw it up. They might introducea special moire/aliasing software (lol), or 1080p resolution in a 4k image or just contrasty image profile in video or ridiculously low bitrate for 4k. Or they might go the for the Canon 1dc market and not hinder the camera too much but for a much higher price.

it sounds like a daydream to me, but they gave it an SR4 rating, so who knows... my bet would be 1DC price, anyway

Panasonic had the two years the GH3 was out to figure out what they needed to improve, so I'm expecting a lot from the GH4.

I don't know if Sony has two years of feedback to use to build their new camera, so I am also expecting a lame-duck entry from Sony.

F5 sensor is f3
f55 is newer from what i remember.
No - F5 sensor is 4096x2160 (so 4K capable) - the F3 sensor is about 2500 horizontally, just enough to give full 1080 resolution after deBayering.

I think you may be getting confused with the F5 sharing the same sensor as the FS700?
id be surprised if they use the high end sensors.
Well, so would I. If they did, it would certainly give good video quality :) - but...... what about the stills performance? By current standards, the F5 sensor is great for video - but not really for still photography. And since this rumour seems to be about what is primarily a stills camera with video mode, that would seem a pretty silly thing to do.....?

Yeah yeah fs700. I never looked at the f5.

Funny im seeing f3 at 6k on ebay. I always thought that was a good cam just crippled badly by sony.
