Sony Vegas 8.0 & P2 DVCPRO files

Check out www.dvfilm.com for Raylight. Works seamlessly to integrate P2 mxf files into Vegas. Very inexpensive, too. Also works with my Boris FX Red program that operates within Vegas as well.

Raylight can also create AVI's that can be used with other programs (such as After Effects) but it is not a standalone AVI that can be played in windows media player. Read the documentation on their web site and also the sticky at the top of this forum.

DV Filmmaker also comes with it and is handy for converting HDV files to 24p.

They are also a DVXuser advertiser.

Raylight can make standalone AVIs. You still need the Raylight codec installed, but they're not proxy files.

Note: Raylight can't remove pulldown from 1080 24p standard files.

Sounds great!
Have you heard if Sony is going to support DVCPRO and the P2 work flow in future versions? I sure hope so.
Sony has expressed no interest in adding support for a Panasonic format. However, with Hitachi now starting to manufacture P2 recorders, and Fuji now manufacturing P2 cards, they're going to start looking silly if they don't.

Now, do I get the HVX200 or the 170 when it comes out??? Hmmm....
If you need it now, get it now. Plenty of money can be made between now and September.

If you're waiting until September, then the question becomes: do you need tape or not? If you don't need tape, hands down get the HPX170.

There is a solution in Raylight for removing 3:2 pulldown from 1080i60. You convert the 1080i60 MXF into an AVI, then remove the 3:2 pulldown with DVFilm Maker 2.4 which is included with Raylight.

It can also be done in one step with Raylight MXFX http://dvfilm.com/MXFX which will also do noise reduction, image rotation and other things as it removes the pulldown.

Of course shooting 24PA (2:3:3:2 pulldown) is the preferred solution and then the pulldown removal can be accomplished from within the Vegas plugin.
