Sony UWP-D11 Sound Issues

Hey guys,

Hopefully someone can help me out on this one. I recently purchased the UWP-D11 lav mic. It's been a little over a week, used it about 5 times (15+ interviews). Yesterday I had a interview shoot at an agency office (NYC). I also plug the lav into the Zoom H5 recorder. This time I decided to also run a line cable out of the zoom, into my a7s.

The whole time there the sound off the lav sounded terrible. Here's a link to one of the tracks:

It's as though it was on 'auto-mode' compensating the audio, or as though some filter was on there (limiter, compressor, etc). I tried the clear scan option, which searches and finds the cleanest channel, that didn't help. A full reset of the lavs mic, didn't help. The issue is now being worked on in post.

Things get better, I came home that night, put together the same set-up and everything worked flawlessly. What the hell happened? Thoughts/ideas...

I'm not familiar with the UWP-D11 wireless system and how interference manifests itself . From what I hear, sounds like there's some kind of gate and/or expander on there. You may be able to grab a line here or there. But otherwise, there's not much there to restore. Sorry.
Relying on a cheap wireless (alone, and not monitoring it) in NYC is like playing Russian roulette with a fully loaded revolver.

BTW, In this case, your 200+MB 24 bit dual-mono file is unnecessary. a (smaller) single channel mono (or smaller yet) MP3, would have sufficed.

Everything ws monitored. We just had to go with it. And I still can't find the cause for the issue. The 'effect' does sound like an expanded of some sort. But there was nothing on, I've been using it before no issues. And this time I went through everything just to make sure nothing was accidentally turn on. Nothing was touched.

Very strange. Good news it was fixed a bit in post, sounds better now. But still no answer as to what caused the issue. Some said it could have been a weak battery, but they were fully charged. Not close to low.
