Sony UWP-C1 Wireless kit - advice ?

Sony UWP-C1 Wireless kit
Transmitter / receiver/ lavalier/ XLR cable adapter clips etc come with it.

Just bought the cheap wireless mic set up (as above) so that I can keep it in the kit and use when situations demand that I am the sound guy also (eg run & gun).

Anyone had any experience with this unit. Any advice how to get the best out of it.

I will do some tests to try and get a bit familiar but I am hoping I will be able to use it to wireless mic both lav and shot gun and so stay cable free in some situations.

I also hope to use it to take a feed from a mixing desk ( music band) and send it wireless to my camera. Any down sides to this apart from battery failure ? !!!

I guess at times I could use both wireless and a cable mic at the same time using each XLR input on the DVX.

Hi Shooter,

I've used this mic lots of times. Its a great mic at a good price. Ive used it corporately and on television shows with nothing bad to say about it. Very reliable. If you want to throw more money at it and improve it further you can upgrade the mic as there are several paths available to use with it.

Actually, funny I ran into this thread today. I was assessing how many shoots I had lined up in the next few months and how many times I'd be renting this mic. I would have been $50 away from having it paid for in rentals, so I just bought it today instead.

If I was to finger one thing though, I really dont like the clip it comes with. Its silver in color so I usually end up gaf taping it black and its also locked in a fixed position. But these two little annoyances are minor and I can easily implement a workaround if I need to.

It would be better too if the case wasn't plastic on the transmitter/receiver but then you look at the price... 'nuf said. Its a good value.

Thanx Take 1. - good to hear that it has served you well and it will do the job for me when I can not get a pro to do the job at the time.

Did a few little tests this evening with the kit and my DVX.

Seems I needed to attenuate -12 db and that brought it roughly into line with the cheapy Shotgun mic (that I own) levels. The idea was I do not want to alter inputs and levels on the DVX everytime I change mics. I run the DVX approx in the center of the input level knobs.

I will buy a Senheisser shotgun when one pops up 2nd hand but I also have one I can loan anytime. I have a cable for it with a -10db pad in it.

Any idea what sort of range the wireless set up has for practical purposes ????? I dont want to find out by accident in the field.

Interesting you had to adjust -12db. I've never had to do this with the one I was renting. I like to run the DVX approx in the center of the input level knobs too. The rental house must have had this adjusted before hand.

I'm using a Senheisser ME66 shotgun on top and it works really well (very discriminating to noise from the sides).

Lav Ch1 ME66 Ch2

As to the range of the lav I can't really say. I've only had it out 30 - 40 yards from the receiver so far.
